Dr. Saranjeev Lalh
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Lalh, DDS, MD, BSc, FRCDC, appointment as the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the world-renowned Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM) at the Misericordia Hospital and Covenant Health is a true testament to his exceptional skills and unwavering dedication to the field of medicine.

He specializes in reconstructing the lives of patients suffering from head and neck cancer, helping them regain their confidence and hope for the future. Lalh's work is not only transformative but also innovative, as he incorporates cutting-edge digital imaging technology in his reconstructive surgical procedures and aesthetic medicine. Dr. Lalh's unwavering passion for his craft and commitment to providing the best care possible inspire us all to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on the world.

Dr. James Lipon
Registered Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Lipon, BSc, DDS, FRCDC, Dip. ADBA, Dip. ABPD, graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelor of science degree in 1997 and a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1999. He practiced general dentistry for 13 years in his hometown of Grande Prairie.

Dr. Lipon then completed a residency in dental anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center, a designated Level I trauma center, in Brooklyn, New York. During his senior year, he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed a residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dr. Lipon is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in the specialty of pediatric dentistry. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is board-certified in dental anesthesiology and pediatric dentistry in Canada.

Dr. Lipon maintains a part time clinical appointment as an attending dentist at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he trains pediatric dental residents in moderate and deep sedation techniques. He works in private practice in Edmonton, Alberta.

Dr. Gregory Austin
Periodontist

Dr. Austin, DDS, MSc, FRCD(C), graduated from the University of Western Ontario and has spent over 35 years as a periodontist in the Canadian Armed Forces, as both a civilian and a serving military member of the Royal Canadian Dental Corps.

Over his long career, he has provided hundreds of both one and two-drug IV sedation procedures. In addition to his periodontics specialty certificate from the United States Army, he holds a master of science in oral biology from the Medical College of Georgia. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and a past councillor for periodontics at the RCDC.

Austin is currently semi-retired but clinically instructs part-time in undergraduate periodontics, and is involved part-time in the postgraduate periodontics program at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Antonella Trache
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Trache, DDS, BSc, CertOMS, CD, is currently the discipline lead for oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Alberta.

She retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after a 21-year career where she accumulated a vast array of memorable and valuable experiences from both professional and personal perspectives. Dr. Trache was the first female oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. The highlight of her military career consisted of the two tours of duty in Afghanistan, as the maxillofacial trauma surgeon at the Role Three Multinational Hospital at Kandahar Air Base.

Since leaving the military, she has been involved with the School of Dentistry as an associate clinical professor on a part-time basis before joining the faculty full-time. She is actively involved with the general practice residency (GPR) program, where she mentors the four GPR residents in clinic-based dentoalveolar surgery. Dr. Trache is also a clinical instructor with continuing dental education in the intravenous sedation program and the Alberta implant residency program. She presented lectures and workshops on maxillofacial trauma topics to various military and civilian organizations, and study clubs throughout the country.

Additionally, Dr. Trache is a member of several School of Dentistry and Alberta Dental Association committees. When not at the school, she maintains a private practice in Edmonton at Contours Oral Surgery.

Dr. Christopher Bryant Roy
Periodontist

Dr. Roy, CD, DDS, MSc (Perio), FRCDC, Dip ABP, completed his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Manitoba before being accepted into the doctor of dental surgery program at the University of Western Ontario. It was here that he enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces during his first year of dental school.

After serving as a general dentist throughout Ontario and Quebec in the military, he had the opportunity to be mentored by several periodontists. It was during these mentorship opportunities where he was persuaded to return to school and pursue a graduate degree in periodontics.

In 2022, he completed his master of science in periodontology at University of Alberta and was successful in becoming a board-certified periodontist, fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Presently, he is stationed at the military base in Edmonton and serves as the Western regional periodontist in 1 Dental Unit for the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. In addition, he is a part-time instructor in the graduate periodontology program at the University of Alberta. His wife (Laura) and two children (Leo and Violet) enjoy the province of Alberta and hope to serve many years to come here in Edmonton.

Dr. Adam Abdo
Maxillofacial surgeon

Dr. Abdo, BSc MecE, DMD, MDent, FRCDC, graduated from the oral and maxillofacial surgery program at the University of Manitoba. Born and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Abdo began his educational journey at the University of Alberta and completed a degree in mechanical engineering.

He then pursued dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan furthering his career with specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Abdo recently completed a fellowship in pediatric maxillofacial surgery in Melbourne, Australia focusing on managing patients with cleft lip and palate and other maxillofacial deformities.

Dentist

Dr. Fair is a veteran dentist in Camrose, specializing in emergency care and sedation dentistry.

As a KOIS Center graduate, Spear Centre Faculty member, and examiner on the National Dental Examining Board of Canada, he continues to bring extensive knowledge and high clinical standards to our community.
