Optimizing Your Research Program
Strategies to Apply + Pitfalls to Avoid
Description
This workshop will provide attendees with perspectives and insights from experienced FoMD faculty members who have established and maintained successful research programs while balancing competing academic, clinical, and personal commitments and priorities. Attendees will benefit from presenters’ collective decades of experience with strategies for success in applying for (and receiving!) research funding, publishing research in top-tier academic journals, and leading multidisciplinary research teams, big and small.
Objectives
- Provide strategies for attendees to enhance success in their independent research programs
- Share educational resources to improve academic writing and communication skills
- Offer a forum for attendees to ask co-presenters questions regarding research-related issues, including grant writing, manuscript preparation, and research team leadership
Target Audience
All faculty members are welcome, but content will be targeted to junior faculty and faculty with ≤30% dedicated time for research.
Facilitation
This 1.5 hour online workshop has been organized and is co-presented by Dr. Geoff Ball (Associate Chair [Research], Dept. of Pediatrics).
Presenters with diverse backgrounds/experiences in clinical/health services research from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry will co-present, including Drs.:

- Rhonda Rosychuk (Division of Infectious Diseases, Dept. of Pediatrics)
- Bruce Wright (Division of Emergency Medicine, Dept. of Pediatrics)
