Join us for an introduction or a refresh on supervision and mentorship of graduate students. This workshop will be an interactive discuss of communication, setting expectations and providing a foundation for graduate student success.

Objectives

  1. Differentiate between supervision and mentorship
  2. Contemplate your supervision and mentorship style
  3. Cultivate effective communication with grad students

Target Audience

Anyone who supervises graduate students, in particular those new to graduate student supervision/mentorship (faculty, research associates, post-doctoral fellows). This short workshop is created to complement and provide a venue specific for FoMD. It does not replace, the Graduate Student Supervisory Development Program from FGSR.

Facilitation

This workshop is being presented by Lisa Purdy. Purdy was the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Affairs in the Office of Advocacy & Wellbeing for 6 years. She brings to the workshop unique insight built during her experience supporting, advocating for and mentoring graduate students. This 1.5 hour in person workshop will ideally be held in ECHA. Room number will be provided upon registration.
