The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta has 21 departments, two stand-alone divisions, 7 research institutes, 15 research centres, and 10 research groups. We have state-of-the-art labs and teaching facilities, award-winning teachers, medical students who have scored near or at the top on national medical licensing exams, and alumni who are making a difference in the health of the world's peoples.



Quality Education and Support

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry provides learner-centred, fully accredited educational programs. Our goal is to graduate competent, qualified and compassionate practitioners-whether they have trained to be physicians, dentists, dental hygienists or medical laboratory scientists.

We strive to provide a rich, interdisciplinary environment of learning, practice, research and public service for all our students and residents, and our faculty.

Learners and faculty members are well supported by the Office of Advocacy and Wellbeing, and faculty members can access a wide range of workshops, processes, materials and other resources offered by the faculty development team to help them achieve success and satisfaction in their academic roles.


First-Class Facilities

The University of Alberta is located in the city of Edmonton, capital of the resource-rich province of Alberta. The university has experienced a recent building boom, including the construction of new teaching, clinical and research space for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry that opened in 2011 and 2012.

Members of our faculty are internationally respected leaders in several areas, including diabetes, obesity, virology, cardiology, motor control and rehabilitation, protein structure and function, and transplantation. Many of our research groups are recognized globally.
