About Us
Advancing medical education + research
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta is dedicated to providing learner-centred educational programs that meet the health-care needs of our communities. Our goal is to graduate qualified, compassionate and inquisitive practitioners and researchers accomplished in health-care delivery and scholarship.
We are committed to serving patients and populations by providing a rich interdisciplinary environment of learning, practice, research and public service for all our students and faculty.
Programs + Education
Our faculty offers fully accredited programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and ongoing professional development activities. We train physicians, researchers in the clinical and basic sciences, medical laboratory scientists, radiation therapists, dentists and dental hygienists.
Learners are taught in a variety of environments that include: classroom, online, labs, hospital units, ambulatory clinics and community-based teaching sites throughout Alberta. We value collaboration across the health professions and academic disciplines.
The faculty offers a wide range of residencies — more than 50 programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
World-class Research
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry strives to be an international leader in generating, applying and disseminating new medical knowledge for the benefit of all. As such, research is given high priority and is fully integrated with teaching and clinical activities.
Studying how to teach, and teach better, ultimately results in better patient care.
The Alumni Family
Members of the FoMD alumni remain engaged in the Faculty; attending annual events like Alumni Weekend, sharing their experience as mentors and preceptors, and participating in Class reunions and contributing to class gifts.
