When it comes to the restoration of posterior dentition in non-aesthetic locations, there are few treatment modalities of more utility and importance than correctly done functional posterior crown lengthening. The ability to adjust the tissue and bone anatomy before restoration can predictably result in a more stable and healthy final result.

What you will learn

This course will provide both foundational knowledge and hands-on experience (both in the lab and with live patients) that will allow the participants to perform simple, functional posterior crown lengthening procedures in their practices. The instructor-to-student ratio will be 1:4.

Day one: Didactic presentations

Candidates will receive presentations from periodontists that cover the foundational knowledge of performing simple, functional posterior crown lengthening procedures in their practices.

Day two: Hands-on workshop

This workshop will cover elements of instrumentation, sharpening techniques, and suturing. Intraoral photography will be covered to improve clinical documentation. A video demonstration on crown lengthening will be reviewed before completing a hands-on crown lengthening procedure on a pig jaw.

Prerequisites

DDS/DMD degree & active practicing license from your dental regulatory authority in Canada.

Location

This course is hosted at the KAYE Clinic at 11400 University Ave, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z1. The course will run on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Our leading faculty

Dr. Christopher Bryant Roy
Periodontist

Dr. Roy, CD, DDS, MSc (Perio), FRCDC, Dip ABP, completed his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Manitoba before being accepted into the doctor of dental surgery program at the University of Western Ontario. It was here that he enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces during his first year of dental school.

After serving as a general dentist throughout Ontario and Quebec in the military, he had the opportunity to be mentored by several periodontists. It was during these mentorship opportunities where he was persuaded to return to school and pursue a graduate degree in periodontics.

In 2022, he completed his master of science in periodontology at University of Alberta and was successful in becoming a board-certified periodontist, fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Presently, he is stationed at the military base in Edmonton and serves as the Western regional periodontist in 1 Dental Unit for the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. In addition, he is a part-time instructor in the graduate periodontology program at the University of Alberta. His wife (Laura) and two children (Leo and Violet) enjoy the province of Alberta and hope to serve many years to come here in Edmonton.

Dr. Sameer Bajaj
periodontist

Dr. Bajaj, DDS, MPH, MSc, FRCD(C), Dip. ABP, earned his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco.

He received multiple awards for his academic and clinical accomplishments and was honoured with induction into the esteemed OKU National Dental Honor Society. Before entering UCSF, Dr. Bajaj completed a master’s in public health at the University of Saskatchewan. He worked as a research associate at the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine. His passion for periodontics led him to externships at the University of Toronto, the University of Manitoba, and the University of Alberta.

Dr. Bajaj completed his master in medical science –periodontology, a three-year surgical residency program at the University of Alberta. He is a practicing periodontist in Calgary, where he uses his clinical expertise in the treatment of periodontal diseases, periodontal plastic procedures, reconstruction of hard and soft tissues, and surgical placement of dental implants. He is passionate about dental photography and documents his cases to educate his referring dentists and patients.

Dr. Bajaj is a dual board-certified periodontist (Canadian and American). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC) and a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
