U of A recognized at Canadian HR Excellence Awards

2024 Queen's University IRC Award for Best Learning & Development Strategy Excellence Awardee

20 November 2024

The U of A has been named an Excellence Awardee for the 2024 Queen's University IRC Award for Best Learning & Development Strategy. This award recognizes and celebrates the Organizational Development and Talent Management (ODTM) team that has delivered outstanding organizational benefits by directly linking the training needs of their people, at all levels, to the strategic needs of their organization.

This is one of several awards earned by the U of A in the last few years, including recognition as an Innovative HR Team for 2023 from Canadian HR Reporter and recipient of a 2023 LearningElite award from Chief Learning Officer.

The U of A’s ODTM team was recognized for its excellence in outlining the university’s overall approach to learning and development and how this aligns with the U of A’s broader organizational objectives. This includes the investment of finances, time and other resources in the development of employees.

ODTM is a Centre of Expertise at U of A which offers strategic expertise and services to support workforce learning and development. It is aligned with the university’s strategic plan, SHAPE, which focuses on education with purpose, research with purpose and engagement with purpose. SHAPE prioritizes people, creating a safe workplace and positive culture where everyone can achieve their full potential. ODTM's programs incorporate Indigenous worldviews, safe and inclusive programming, innovation, creativity and collaboration with learners.

The positive impact of ODTM programs is underscored by findings from the most recent Faculty + Staff Engagement Survey. A significant 75% of respondents expressed satisfaction, noting that their roles effectively leverage their skills and capabilities. This correlation between employee satisfaction and perceived skill-job alignment highlights the efficacy of our learning strategies.
