Why did you choose the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation for your undergraduate degree?
As I grew up in Edmonton, the University of Alberta has always been my goal. I originally started out in Sciences. In my second year, I transferred to the KSR faculty. I wanted to learn about the body and how it moves. This degree allowed me to study my two passions: sport and working with individuals with disabilities. It was the best decision I have ever made. The welcoming atmosphere is like no other, everyone wants everyone to succeed. There are multiple classes that allow me to hand on experience in my field.
What has been your favourite course so far and why?
My favourite class has been KRLS 420 - Play: the Foundation of Recreation, Sport, and Physical Activity. This class allowed me to step outside my world and experience the flow of true play. As adults, we often forget how to play and the importance it has on our lives. This class got me in touch with play again and helped me reintroduce aspects of play into my friend's and family's lives.
What advice do you have for new undergraduate students?
Get involved!! There are so many opportunities for students in our faculty. From the Kin Games team, KSRSS, PAW, Varsity Health, Campus Rec. The list could go on. This is how you gain experience but also make friends. I am forever grateful to this faculty for introducing me to my lifelong friends. Make the most of your university experience. You won't remember that extra hour you studied but you will remember the memories you make with your friends.
What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?
I love being outdoors, whether that means hiking, camping, kayaking, or even snowshoeing. I also love hanging out with my friends.
Why did you want to choose the photos above? Did it related to any special stories or experience?
The second picture is from KSR camp which is a weekend retreat for all students new to our faculty. This event inspired me to become so involved in our faculty. I was able to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people. KSR camp helps make your first year in our faculty not as intimidating. I attended 3 times. Once as a camper and twice as a camp leader. I HIGHLY recommend all students to attend the KSR camp!!! It was the highlight of my degree.
