Fulbright Canada and Killam Fellowships
One of the pillars of UAlberta’s relationship with the United States is a robust partnership with Fulbright Canada. The Foundation of Education Exchange between Canada and the United States of America (Fulbright Canada) is a bi-national, treaty-based, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization with a mandate to identify the best and brightest minds in both countries and engage them in residential academic exchange. UAlberta's most active participation is with the Fulbright Canada Visiting Research Chair program.
Fulbright Canada currently promotes eight Visiting Research Chair positions at the University of Alberta:
- Chair in Native Peoples and Communities
- Chair in Arts and Humanities
- Chair in Business
- Chair in Education
- Chair in Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences
- Chair in Indigenous Law and Legal Issues
- Chair in Society and Culture
- Chair in Healthy Indigenous and Northern Communities
Since the 2004-2005 academic year, UAlberta has received over 25 Visiting Research Chairs. Recent Visiting Scholars Research scholars include:

Various University of Alberta professors have also spent time in the United States as recipients of Fulbright awards.
In addition, UAlberta participates in the Killam Fellowships Program, administered by Fulbright Canada. This program supports undergraduate student exchange between Canada and the United States.

In March of 2020, Dr. Hawes met with senior university leadership team and presented Fulbright opportunities to UAlberta researchers and faculty administrators.
