Year One Foundation Program
If you are an international student who would like to study at the University of Alberta but don’t yet meet the academic entry requirements, you can apply to join our Year One Foundation Program. This is not an upgrading program — it's a full-time, on-campus program that sets you up to enter a degree program in your second year.
Academic excellence
The Year One Foundation Program is the first year of a four-year bachelor’s degree; you will take U of A credit courses offered by U of A instructors with Dr. Rebecca Nagel, associate dean in the Faculty of Arts, as the academic lead for the program. After successfully completing the first year in the foundation program with the required GPA, you will progress to a U of A degree program in your second year.
Tailored support services
Our goal is to provide you with the best experience possible, offering you support, encouragement, community and opportunity. The University of Alberta has partnered with Kaplan International to provide tailored student services for the Year One Foundation Program, including assistance with the international student application process, admissions as well as on-campus support.
