Eligibility / Application
Eligibility
Subspecialty positions are intended for Canadian Citizens/Permanent Residents who are graduates of Canadian and North American accredited medical schools, and are currently enrolled in an accredited Canadian internal medicine residency program.
Applicants who are sponsored by an outside government/agency will be evaluated individually based on academic credentials. The basic requirement is for the sponsoring agency to pay all annual tuition fees to the University and salary/benefits to the Resident, commensurate with experience. At the conclusion of training, the Resident is expected to return to his/her country of origin.
At the current time, our program has no resources to accept non-Canadian applicants without sponsorship. Therefore, please ensure funding sponsorship before considering the program.
Application Process
University of Alberta Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital are the primary sites for training. Rotations also take place at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Misericordia Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute.
All Canadian funded positions are handled via the CaRMS R-4 match.
Applications for externally funded positions should be forwarded to the Gastroenterology Residency Training Office. Deadlines are the same as for CaRMS applicants (see CaRMS website for details).
