About Us

Welcome to the Division of Cardiology at the University of Alberta Hospital. This site provides an introduction to a vibrant and growing and multidisciplinary cardiology division. The division has strengths in cardiovascular research, patient care and education.

Cardiology is the medical subspecialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system. A Cardiologist is a specialist who is an expert in the diagnosis and management of all aspects of cardiovascular disease.

The multidisciplinary cardiology team includes leading academic cardiologists who conduct research, teach the next generation of physicians and researchers, and provide top-notch clinical services for patients in Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan.

The Division of Cardiology at the University of Alberta Hospital is a full-service division with expertise in a broad range of areas of clinical cardiology, including cardiac transplantation, electrophysiology, echocardiography, interventional cardiology, gene therapy at clinical trials and outcomes research. The division is proud of its multidisciplinary membership, which includes MDs, PhDs and Pharm Ds.


 

Research Groups

Alberta Cardiovascular and Stroke Research Centre (ABACUS) logo

The Alberta Cardiovascular and Stroke Research Centre (ABACUS) is a molecules-to-populations translational research facility. Heart patients taking part in studies and clinical trials will advance medical understanding of cardiovascular disease, while benefiting from state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and breakthrough therapies.

Epidemiology Coordinating and Research (EPICORE) is a clinical trials and health services research centre with a full range of activities, including protocol design, case report forms design, database creation, study management, implementation, site coordination (for multicentre trials), data management, and analysis.
