Fellowship in Occupational Medicine
The University of Alberta offers a fellowship program in Occupational Medicine accessible to international medical graduates. The training is similar to the Occupational Medicine residency program, without the Royal College certification process.
Here is some key information about this program:
- The fellowship positions are externally funded (either by an approved governmental bureau, a research grant or industry funding). The source of funding is reviewed and approved by the PGME office. Self-funded positions are not acceptable.
- International applications will have to get a work permit before the fellowship can begin, and must refer to the Immigration and Citizenship webpage of the Government of Canada. The University of Alberta Post-Graduate Medical Education office can facilitate the procedure.
- Occupational medicine fellows are considered Clinical Fellows, therefore they have to be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta before the fellowship can begin.
- English language proficiency requirements are listed on the CPSA website. The test must be taken no more than 2 years prior to the beginning of the fellowship. All applicants must meet these requirements in a single test. All acceptable exemptions are listed on the CPSA webpage. No other exemption will be considered.
