Day in the Life of Gisele Gaudet-Amigo

Have you met Gisele? She's been busy working on the curriculum renewal and is excited to see this project begin to be implemented. Gisele has been at the school for almost 10 years as the curriculum coordinator. Her role provides support for curriculum to all School of Dentistry programs.

Take a few minutes to get to know a little bit more about her.

What is your role?

My title is Curriculum Coordinator. My role is to provide support for curriculum to all School of Dentistry programs. My primary focus, though, is undergraduate dental education. I liaise with our colleagues in Undergraduate Medical Education and support interprofessional, collaborative practice. I oversee and support the use of both Learning (Moodle, soon to be eClass) and Curriculum (MedSIS) Management Systems. I work with the Academic Teaching Services Team.
What is one of your proudest moments at work?
One of my proudest moments at work relates to the opportunity (and challenge) to work on our Curriculum Renewal. It is humbling to work through this process and challenge, knowing that it will impact our future dentists. I have been blessed in my career in Dentistry to work with amazing colleagues.
Tell us something we don't know about you?

When I started university, I was planning to go into Optometry (following in my father's footsteps).

If you weren't doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

I would most likely be working in an academic environment in the field of recreation therapy and gerontology - most likely working with older adults with dementia related cognitive impairment.

What's the best advice somebody has ever given you?

"Be you, and have confidence in who you are, what you contribute, and your accomplishments" (Dr. Doug Kleiber, a member of my doctoral dissertation committee).

Favourite quote, movie or book?

"You can learn more in an hour of play than a lifetime of conversation" Plato (although over time whether or not Plato said this has come into question, but it is still one of my favourite quotes from my days in Recreation and Leisure Studies).
