The Dental Hygiene (DH) diploma graduates and the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) grads have joined the medical students from the class of 2012 in showcasing their skills, having recently placed above the national average in their national exams.
The 2012 dental hygiene students placed above the national average in every category of the National Dental Hygiene Certification Exam.
"To me, the results represent quality," said Dr. Sharon Compton, director of the dental hygiene program. "Quality in our many dedicated teaching staff that develop and provide the courses, quality in our students who excel and exceed our expectations and quality in our overall dental hygiene program."
The 2012 DDS average score was 4 standard deviations above the Canadian mean from all ten dental schools on both the overall written examination and OSCE.
"These scores clearly put our school at the top of dental schools in Canada," said Dr. Steve Patterson, Associate Chair (Academic), School of Dentistry. "In spite of the many challenges and changes that have been occurring as we have transitioned to new facilities, these results continue to demonstrate the quality of both our learners and of our teaching and we congratulate all those who have worked so hard to achieve these results."
