Critical maintenance

Critical maintenance is when a problem will jeopardize someone’s safety, cause further damage or loss to university property or will significantly disrupt university activity.

Critical maintenance will either require immediate attention or be addressed within 24 hours of being reported. Often a temporary fix will be made to prevent further damage until a full repair can be done. Large scale emergencies such as fire, gas leaks, broken water lines and loss of utilities will take priority over critical maintenance.

How to submit a critical maintenance request

WHAT TO EXPECT

By submitting a maintenance request, you give permission for maintenance staff to enter your unit to conduct repairs from the moment you submit the request and for the following 10 business days, between the hours of 8 am–8 pm.

Maintenance staff will:

  1. Notify you before entering, unless the repair is an emergency or a request has been submitted in the past 10 days.
  2. Knock twice before entering your unit.
  3. Conduct a preventative maintenance check on other items in your unit, as required.
  4. Provide verbal or written notification when repairs are complete or if they need to return.
  5. Lock unit doors when leaving, including bedrooms, even if the door was unlocked upon entry.

Tell your roommate(s) when you submit a maintenance request.

If applicable, tell your roommate(s) that you have submitted a request so that they are aware that maintenance staff will be entering your shared unit.
