Dr. Elaine Yacyshyn

Headshot of Dr. Elaine Yacyshyn.Dr. Yacyshyn is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head, Department of Medicine. She has considerable leadership experience including serving as a member of the Faculty Affairs Committee since 2015 and as an elected representative of the Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) Management Committee for the Department of Medicine. Dr Yacyshyn is also Director for Quality Improvement / Patient Safety for Postgraduate Medical Education and was previously Rheumatology Residency Training Committee Program Director. She also serves as a member of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Dr. Yacyshyn’s clinical and research interests include vasculitis and quality improvement. She is principal and co-investigator on several clinical trials for rheumatic diseases. Her research has been supported by grants from regional and national organizations, and has resulted in many publications including international clinical practice guidelines. She is also a principal core member of the CanVasc Network, a Canadian Vasculitis research collaborative network.

Dr. Yacyshyn is also a dedicated educator and has received many awards recognizing her contributions, including the 2021 Distinguished Teacher-Educator Award from the Canadian Rheumatology Association.

Role of Vice-Dean, Faculty Affairs

Main Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and advice to the dean and faculty on academic issues.
  • Act as the faculty's lead for the development and implementation of Academic Alternative Relationship Plans (AARPs).
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of faculty committees.
  • Co-ordinate FoMD search-and-selection processes.
  • Foster the development of academic leadership.
  • Co-ordinate selected reviews, representing the dean as delegated.
  • Represent the dean in his/her absence as delegated.
  • Administer FoMD Faculty Council meetings.
