The third annual University of Alberta Visiting Lectureship in Human Rights was delivered by the Dr. James Orbinski on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at the Myer Horowitz Theatre.

About Dr. James Orbinski

A Canadian, Dr. James Orbinski, has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) since 1990. Through his involvement with MSF, he has worked in Somalia, Afghanistan, Rwanda, and Zaire. Dr. Orbinski is currently President of the MSF International Council. His term as President ends on December 31, 2000.

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, MSF is the world's largest independent medical humanitarian organization. It provides medical humanitarian assistance to populations in danger in conflict situations and situations of social instability, and advocates for those populations based on universal medical ethics. It has over 400 projects in 80 different countries, with over 2,000 expatriate and 10,000 national staff.
