Research Electives and Project Options

Research Electives (optional)

Research electives are designed to be research project-focused and are supervised by a full-time Department academic faculty member.

 

Year 1 Research Elective

This is a 2 week, horizontal elective credit. The objectives of the Year 1 research elective are:

  • define a research question
  • conduct a literature review
  • develop study design and methodology
  • write a research proposal

Year 2 Research Elective

The Year 2 research elective is a 2 to 6 week elective credit. This can consist of either a 2-6-week integrated, horizontal elective or 2-6-week dedicated elective time or a combination of horizontal and dedicated elective time. The objectives of the Year 2 research elective are:

  • apply for funding (if applicable)
  • write an ethics application
  • collect research data
  • compile and analyze research data
  • write a research manuscript and/or present at an appropriate forum

Total of 4-8 weeks of research elective time over 2 years.

Research Project (optional)

Residents have the option to conduct a full research project under the supervision of a faculty member.

  • Research question

  • Data analysis
  • Write-up of findings
  • Presentation/publication of findings
