Faculty Development
Welcome to the Faculty Development Page, Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta!
OUR VISION
Building Family Medicine through a culture of teaching excellence
OUR MISSION
We strive to support and build relationships with our clinical teachers so they can mentor, educate and inspire our learners to become excellent family physicians.
Interested in teaching medical students and family medicine residents? Join our teaching team! Here is what you need to get involved:
- Have a passion to mentor and educate others
- Possess a CCFP designation and in good standing with CPSA
- Review undergraduate teaching opportunities (start with teaching LCE and family medicine electives)
- Contact the Faculty Development Team at fmfacdev@ualberta.ca expressing your interest and we will be in touch with you to start your application for a clinical academic appointment.
To support our community physician educators, you will find short videos, one page summaries and written material on this page including how to have a learner in your clinic, manage a clinical encounter, complete the learner assessment and other time saving strategies.
All educators are welcome to participate in our Clinical Teacher Series (held over ZOOM at clinic friendly hours of 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM) run over a 1 year cycle and accredited for 1.25 Mainpro credits per session.
It would be our utmost pleasure to supply a certificate of recognition to all teaching sites informing your patients of the learners at your clinic. Please send us an email at fmfacdev@ualberta.ca to let us know if you need a certificate!
If you are a new teacher, welcome to our teaching team. If you are interested in teaching, please sign up or reach out if you have questions. The Faculty Development team can assist with peer consultations and site visits as needed. I look forward to working with you and helping build and secure our primary care future by educating our medical students and family medicine residents.
Sincerely,
Lillian Au, MD
