Spring Convocation 2022

Please join us in congratulating Department of Medicine's graduating class of 2022!

Lisa Keller - 8 June 2022

Krittika Bali, MSc in Medicine

(Supervisors: Dr. Andrea Gruneir and Dr. Adrian Wagg; Division of Geritatric Medicine)
“Pursuing a MSc in Medicine allowed me to incorporate advocacy in action through my research endeavours while acquiring the competencies to address significant inequities faced by marginalized and vulnerable populations in our communities. I feel fortunate to have learned the stories and struggles of those with lived experiences and I hope to utilize my skills and resources to build and grow fair, equitable healthcare systems over the course of my career.”

Morgan Bharadia, PhD in Medicine

(Supervisor: Dr. Sunita Vohra; Department of Pediatrics)
"As a practicing pharmacist it has been exciting to research the use of natural health products by patients with cancer and investigate potential adverse events and drug interactions as part of my PhD. Asking about, monitoring and documenting our patients' use of natural health products is so important as healthcare providers. I look forward to continuing to educate future pharmacists on how to implement this in their practice and to further contribute to this area of research as a current Faculty member in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta."

Shweta Vinodbhai Pipaliya, PhD in Medicine

(Supervisor: Joel Dacks; Division of Infectious Diseases)
“It was an absolute pleasure to be a graduate student within the Department of Medicine which provided me with an enriching community to perform my Ph.D. thesis work. During my time within the department, I was very fortunate to experience the intersection between clinical and basic bench research through the Division of Infectious Diseases. The numerous learning opportunities and collaborations with physicians and public health researchers allowed me to contextualise my work toward broader global health outcomes. Most of all, it helped shape my current professional endeavours in the field of translational genomics of host immunity and infectious diseases which I am very grateful for.”

Hussain Muhammad Syed, MSc in Medicine with specialization in Translational Medicine

(Supervisor: Dr. Andrew Mason; Division of Gastroenterology)
"My studies in translational medicine were a transformational experience! With the help of TM, I developed a holistic approach to medical research that combines skills, techniques, and principles from different backgrounds.  I was able to apply these principles to my thesis project with Dr. Andrew Mason, where I integrate informatics analysis with patient biochemistry and biological pathways to investigate superantigen activity in Primary Biliary Cholangitis.  I've learned that interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial to the advancement of medical research."

Yahya Muhammad Fiteih, MSc in Medicine

(Supervisor: Dr. Harissios Vliagoftis; Division of Pulmonary Medicine)

Alisha Puri, MSc in Medicine

(Supervisors: Dr. Stephanie Thompson and Dr. Aminu Bello; Division of Nephrology)
