Why Self-declare?
Join one of the highest populations of Indigenous students among Canadian post-secondary institutions! By utilizing the university’s self-declaring process, you will be invited to events and activities specifically hosted for Indigenous students throughout the year. You will also be notified of volunteer, job and scholarship/award opportunities.

Our Space
wahkohtowin Lodge
A central gathering space with comfy chairs and tables under the nehiyaw mîkiwahp (tipi) perfect for studying and meeting up with friends. Off-campus users should contact Conference Services at augconf@ualberta.ca to inquire about reserving the space for events.
Classroom
Fitted with walls that slide open to the Lodge, this classroom space is flexible for meetings and seminars of various sizes!
Community Space
A gathering space for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students. Coffee, tea and snacks are always available.
Services
Indigenous Student Advising
Indigenous students can visit the wahkohtowin community space to connect with a student advisor, learn more about support services on campus and access cultural programming.
Computer Lab, Printing, Photocopying, Scanning & more
The wahkohtowin community space has multiple computer stations and free printing, photocopying and scanning for Indigenous students.
Financial Support for Indigenous Students
Figuring out how to fund your education isn't always easy, and is definitely stressful! Indigenous Student Services at Augustana is here to help you figure out different funding options, work on developing a budget, support applications for scholarships, awards, bursaries and more.
Students with band funding or other third-party funding should contact Indigenous Student Services to coordinate their tuition, books and residence payments.

Smudging on Campus
Augustana is a smudge-safe campus.
Students in residence are welcome to smudge in their rooms.
All are welcome to smudge anytime in wahkohtowin classroom and community space, located on the lower level of the Forum, and the Multi-Faith Prayer Room, located in room 1-350B.
