Start of Term Information

Augustana is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) faculty. As a result, students are expected to bring their own laptop that meets (or exceeds) the university's minimum technology specifications. A note that certain programs and courses also require students to run a robust suite of software that exceed the minimum technology specifications (to which students are responsible for acquiring).
More information on required and recommended specifications can be found by clicking the link below. If you have any additional questions about this, please email augsas@ualberta.ca or contact your instructor(s).
Fee Assessments are typically completed in July, and after you have completed your course registration. You will be able to find this information in Bear Tracks.

Residence Requirement
Incoming students are not required to live on campus for their first year; however, living in residence provides the best opportunities for connection and convenience for new students.
The MyUAlberta App is your one-stop-shop for everything on campus including:
- maps
- information on Augustana services/resources
- message boards
- campus life
- student events
- textbook sales
- and more!
The app also has specific information for new students, which will be updated for you after this current academic year. It will become more important and useful to you as the start date of the Fall semester gets closer.
Choose "Augustana Campus"
In order to get Augustana-specific information, go to the "My Campus" page and select "Augustana Campus".
Attend Class!
Due to the intensive and integrative style of the 3-week courses, it is important to set the goal of attending every class. Missing one class is similar to missing a traditional week of school. Be prepared to engage deeply with your course topic!
Expect Homework
Be ready to hit the ground, running! You should expect to have readings, papers, or group work after each class. While you will have more time outside of the classroom, you should anticipate spending time completing classroom assignments throughout the 3-week block.
Helpful information to help with your journey to Augustana will be available this summer.
International Student ServicesSupporting Your Student's Adjustment
An adjustment process is normal and often looks like this.
Your student may call you one day and say this is the best place ever and the next tell you they want to leave.
Listen to them and ask questions to encourage them to talk about what they are thinking and feeling.
If they are struggling, encourage them to talk to someone and to get involved in campus activities.
Remind them they are not alone.
