Dr. Mark Prins
Mark Prins is a Family Physician. His full-scope family practice in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut included a significant proportion of surgical care.
Mark moved to Edmonton in 2019 and accepted the role as Director for the Office of Rural and Regional Health, helping to coordinate the movement of medical learners into rural and regional Albertan and northern communities. His experiences providing surgical obstetrical care to women in remote communities inspires his work of developing a training program designed to provide more family physicians with the skills required to sustain rural maternity programs.
Vision for Social Accountability
Mark is excited to participate in the Faculty's pursuit of social accountability. His vision is for communities to believe that they have a critical role to play in helping to shape the medical curriculum. Equally important is for the Faculty to demonstrate for society how it allows itself to be influenced and directed by the needs of the people it serves.
Hobbies + Interests
Mark is a husband and a father of three lively children. His interests include reading, cycling, hiking, and gardening. He just started taking piano lessons and is practicing for his first recital!
