Program Overview

The Junior Research Lab at L'Institut Agro Montpellier reinforces your scientific background and trains you through collaborative research activities within a group of French and international students, to develop your critical thinking, scientific rigor, creativity, and taste for innovation and research.

You will choose among a variety of themes and co-design a project with the support of senior researchers. By managing your project from end to end, you will develop multiple skills strengthening both your self-learning skills and your ability to collaborate with others. You will experience disciplinary content through research-based learning based on real-life scenarios. It will be a different experience from a traditional internship since you will be empowered in your choices and your responsibilities. 

Note: Students have the option to continue with a 6 month internship after the Junior Research Lab program


When Can I Go?

Terms Offered: Fall (September to December with possibility to extend to the end of January) or Full Year

Duration: 4 months JRL + optional 5-6 month lab internship


Eligibility Requirements

Students must have:

  • A solid foundation in biology, mathematics, physics, and chemistry
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English
  • GPA 2.5 or higher
  • Although not mandatory, having a laptop is useful to allow for the flexibility of working in multiple areas of the campus.

Instructions:

  • Posted when deadlines and job postings are announced
To be considered for nomination students must submit the following:
  • Resume including information on their program of study, list of coursework completed, and language proficiencies
  • A cover letter (maximum 1 page) outlining their interest in the project, and ideas for research

Fees + Costs

$250 Program Fee

Students are encouraged to apply for funding even if they do not have a confirmed internship to avoid missing important deadlines.  

Grants for selected students:

  • An international mobility grant of 600€.
  • A living allowance of 600€ per month for 4 months from September to December (funding is extended if students continue with a lab internship)
  • International students get priority in student housing accommodations close to campus
