Overview
FUBiS is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may count towards their degrees at their home institutions. Sessions run for 4 to 6 weeks.
FUBiS offers intensive and semi-intensive German language classes at up to five proficiency levels. In addition, FUBiS offers subject classes on various topics. Most classes are held in English by distinguished German and international faculty.

Freie Universität Berlin Credit Information
FUBiS offers intensive and semi-intensive German language classes at five different proficiency levels. In addition, FUBiS offers subject classes on various topics, taught in English.
In Term II and Term III of 2024, FUBiS offered an on-site (i.e., in-person) program and a small online program. Please note that the on-site and online courses are deliberately split into separate programs and are not designed to be combined. Watch for 2025 details!
FUBiS also offers a variety of excursions.
Please know that ECTS credits are typically divided in half when transferring back to UAlberta: 6 ECTS = *3 UAlberta.

Education Abroad Nomination Fee: $250.00 CAD

Fees are subject to change without notice. Students are responsible for their own travel to Berlin and any additional costs, including medical coverage, books and supplies, food, entertainment, and incidental expenses.
Housing
FUBiS arranges appropriate off-campus accommodation for the duration of the program. Accommodation options can be chosen during the registration process and are subject to availability. Students can choose from a single room in shared apartments at student dorms, a single-occupancy apartment, hostels, homestays, or a campus hotel. Amenities and costs vary depending on the type of accommodation chosen.
