Raising Awareness
PHASE 1
- We conducted an Implicit Association Test (IAT) on more than 100 Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD) leaders. This test is based on a project developed by Harvard University to identify disparities between the conscious and unconscious thinking people have. We are the first U of A Faculty and the first medical school across Canada to conduct this test
- The IAT is now also applied to the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) process for admission to medical school. For the past two years, MMI file reviewers and interviewers have taken this test to identify and reflect on possible biases.
- The creation of an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) section of the FoMD website aimed to create awareness about the EDI principles and initiatives promoted by the Faculty.
