The Marcelle et Louis Desrochers Institute for Heritage and Transdisciplinary Research on Canadian and International Francophonies (IMELDA) was officially launched on Tuesday 22 October 2019.
The Dean of Campus Saint Jean, Pierre -Yves Mocquais addressed about a hundred people representing students, Faculty and the Francophone community of Edmonton and invited Jack Jedwab, President of the Association of Canadian Studies to deliver the inaugural conference on "Francophonie canadienne, dualité linguistique et identités multiples".
The Desrochers family was present at the event and after Mr. Pierre Desrochers' opening remarks, Dr Srilata Ravi, Director of the Institute presented IMELDA's vision and its focus on transdisciplinary research and community engagement.
The Saint Jean Choir directed by Laurier Fagnan closed the evening with their brilliant performance.
