Health, Safety and Environment Review
Clinical research, as well as research, teaching, and testing involving animals, may require approvals from Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for radiation, chemical, and biohazards. Project-specific biohazard approvals related to ethics are obtained through the University's office of Health, Safety and Environment, which is part of Risk Management Services.
Information on chemical, radiation, and biological hazards is collected in the ethics application smartform. HSE review and approval run parallel to the review by the REB or ACUC and are recorded in the online system. Note that project-specific biohazard approvals are separate from the biohazard approvals required for the lab or facility.
