Areas of Research
Diagnostic imaging has become the cornerstone of patient evaluation and therapy for many medical conditions. While the opportunities for research in imaging are limitless, most of our research activities can be categorized into five broad areas:
The use of imaging in the assessment of pharmacological and therapeutic modifiers of disease such as:
- Spondyloarthropathies
- Stroke
- Thromboembolism
- Diabetes
The assessment of new imaging technologies; such as MRI, PET, and SPECT/CT in:
- Cancer
- Cardiovascular disease
- Fetal disorders
- Spondyloarthropathies
- Stroke
- Thromboembolism
Development of new teaching strategies for:
- Resident education
- Fellowship training
- Medical student education
Basic science research in medical imaging such as:
- Quantification of bone using ultrasound
- Manipulation of digital images to improve detection of pathology
- Radiation dosimetry in cardiac imaging
Image guided therapy of:
- Atherosclerotic disease
- Neoplasia
- Vascular malformations
Advances in imaging technology benefits society as a whole and as such we collaborate with many departments both in and outside of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Imaging technology can be useful in many disciplines outside of Medicine, and as such we collaborate with many departments/faculties including:
- Pharmacology
- Anthropology
- Computing Sciences
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine
- Science
- Engineering
