Developmental Pediatrics
Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) is the branch of medicine concerned with providing specialized health care to children with impairments and functional limitations resulting from congenital and childhood-onset neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Upon completion of the fellowship a clinical fellow is expected to be a competent specialist in PRM.
The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is the largest free-standing rehabilitation facility in North America and offers a formidable fellowship experience given it is home to the most fellowship-trained PRM specialists in Canada. We work in a very well-established collaborative interdisciplinary setting, offering specialized care for children and adolescents with a wide variety of abilities. We work alongside:
- pediatricians
- orthopedic surgeons
- plastic surgeons
- pediatric neurologists
- pediatric rheumatologists
- developmental pediatricians
In both the inpatient and outpatient setting, the fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with:
- physical therapists
- occupational therapists
- speech language pathologists
- psychologists
- neuropsychologists
- dieticians
- social workers and nurses with specialized expertise caring for children with different abilities
We typically take one fellow per year based on availability of suitable candidates and/or funding. Candidates have usually completed postgraduate training in physical medicine or rehabilitation but entry from pediatrics would also be considered.
The PRM fellow will train alongside pediatric subspecialty developmental pediatrics residents/fellows. This program can be tailored to a trainee's needs for one or two years.
