Tenure Track Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is a unique, complex and interdependent membership. Its success depends on the varied activities and contributions of vibrant and accomplished faculty members across the domains of education, research, clinical activity and leadership, and on the support, recognition and reward of scholarly participation, contribution, leadership in teaching, application, integration and discovery. Consequently, each tenure-track faculty member must have a written job description outlining his or her university responsibilities, with clearly defined expectations for their chosen domains of activity and scholarship. This represents a joint agreement between the faculty member and the university and is the basis upon which their performance is regularly reviewed and assessed. Performance criteria for various job categories (e.g. teaching, research), and for increasing rank and seniority, are provided in various documents including the Faculty Evaluation Committee (FEC) Standards to assist career planning and the assessment of contributions during review processes.
