Message from the Associate Dean, Clinical Faculty
I am honoured to serve as our representative in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. We belong to a group of over 2,800 Clinical Faculty that do the majority of clinical teaching in medicine and dentistry and represent close to 75% of all faculty that are affiliated to the FoMD. As a clinician myself, I feel privileged to be part of this group that is so vital in shaping the present and future delivery of healthcare.
I continue to meet many of you in the halls of the hospitals, at conferences, rounds and at AMA meetings. I have also had the opportunity to interact with some of you in zonal and provincial meetings regarding research and education, physician resource planning, as well as advocacy for patients and providers. As such, I am aware of the many innovative clinical and research programs that have been developed across the Northern half of the province, and the role that you, the clinicians, have played in shaping these programs.
A Clinical Faculty Committee has been established, with a representative from each clinical department in the FoMD. (Click here for contact list). Your input is needed in the shaping of the future of the FoMD, and I urge you to connect through your representative, or directly to me.
Current priorities for our committee in this office are:
1. Promotions: Clinical faculty are recognized in part through the process of promotions. We provide guidance of our clinical faculty through the promotions process and to encourage applications through your department.
2. Website representation: As clinical faculty members we have access to our own professional page on the FoMD website under Faculty Members (Click here for instructions). This is our opportunity to showcase our work. There are on-going enhancements to highlight our achievements and extract our research work automatically.
3. Mentorship: We connect mentors for you at your local sites to support your professional development, and point you to the right direction for any other advice that you may need.
4. Advocacy: The committee's job is to increase awareness of unmet needs of our clinical faculty. We appreciate your feedback on an ongoing basis to better advocate for you within the FoMD.
Thank you for all the important work that you do each and every day. Please do not hesitate to email me at jchoy@ualberta.ca.
Yours truly,
Jonathan B. Choy, MD, MBA, FRCPC, FACC, FASE, FCCS
