A collaborative approach to lung cancer and COPD risk assessment
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer are a substantial burden on the healthcare system. COPD is responsible fo the highest number of patient hospitalizations and is the 6th leading cause of deaths in Alberta. It is also commonly underdiagnosed. Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer in Alberta. Smoking is the number 1 cause of COPD and lung cancer. Early interventions and effective management such as smoking cessation can improve prognosis and survival for patients living with both of these conditions.

Streamline Screening by providing FIT Kits in Clinic.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Alberta. Five year survivial rates are above 90% when diagnosed in Stage 1. CRC screening rate in Albert ais low- less thn 40% elegible average-risk people in Alberta complete FIT testing and of those, only about 65% repeat the test within the recommended interval.
