Florence Ashley
Florence Ashley, BCL/JD, LLM (Bioeth), SJD, is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Adjunct Member of the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre. As a transdisciplinary transfeminine scholar, Florence researches a diverse range of topics relating to transgender communities, with a particular emphasis on law and clinical ethics. Earlier in their career, Florence served as the first openly transfeminine law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada. Their widely published writings have been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada, in international standards of care, and in United Nations reports. They are the author of Banning Transgender Conversion Practices: A Legal and Policy Analysis (UBC Press, 2022). Florence uses they/them pronouns.
