Gerlinde Metz

Dr. Gerlinde Metz is Professor and Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Senior Scholar at the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Arts & Science, University of Lethbridge. Her research explores environmental and experiential influences on brain and behavior. As part of this work, her team was the first to show that stress affects motor system function and diseases of the motor system, such as Parkinson's disease and stroke. This work showed that lifetime experience is a main predisposing and precipitating factor of disease. She has also shown THAT stress across generations programs endocrine and immune mechanisms leading to preterm birth and adverse maternal and newborn health outcomes. Her current projects are identifying epigenomic and metabolomic biomarkers of stress response and disease.
