Kourtney Grant
What is your role at the Glen Sather Clinic?
I have been a physiotherapist at the Glen Sather Clinic since September 2022. I am excited to see what this new chapter brings when working with well-regarded orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine and physician and massage therapists.
What did you study and where? How long have you been at the Glen Sather Clinic?
I completed my Bachelor of Health-Related Science with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy and Minor in Exercise Science at Oakland University in Michigan in 2014. I completed my Masters of Science in Physiotherapy in 2017 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I started my physiotherapy career in the Greater Toronto area working primarily in sports rehabilitation. Since graduating from Dalhousie, I have obtained my Level 2 Shift Concussion Certificate, Level 2 Dry Needling with Acupuncture Canada, Certified Strength and Condition Specialization and I am currently working on my Sports Certificate through Sports Physiotherapy Canada. I have been at the GSSMC since September 2022.
What are your key areas of interest as a physiotherapist?
I love treating all kinds of injuries, but lower extremity (low back/hip/knees/ankles) injuries and sports related injuries hold a special place in my heart from my previous soccer experience. I love discovering that a knee injury may be a hip injury in disguise, or that chronic Achilles pain may be due to poor shoulder mobility. I take pride in examining your whole injury history and take the time to explain how an old injury may be presenting itself in a new form.
What are your favourite ways to stay active?
My favourite way to stay active is to play soccer. Although it is not at the level of my university days, nothing makes me happier than a ball at my feet. If I am not on the field, you can find my sprinting on a track or lifting at the gym.
What has been your biggest accomplishment as a physiotherapist and/or athlete?
As an athlete, I played Division 1 Soccer at Oakland University where were competed twice at the NCAA tournament, beating Ohio State to head to the second round which was a first in our program’s history. I was the captain of the team my final year.
As a physiotherapist, I would have to say winning the inaugural Canada Games Sport Physiotherapy Leadership Award and attending the 2022 Canada Summer Games as a Sponsored Therapist. As a close second, it would be travelling with the Senior Men’s National and NextGen Men’s National Indoor Field Hockey Team to the inaugural CANUSA Championship.
