Program Specific
Registration Tips
Register early! Make note of your enrollment date in Bear Tracks or My Schedule Builder and register in your courses for both Fall and Winter terms. Some courses will open for enrollment to students in other programs at a later date, so it’s important to utilize your priority registration access.
Follow Your Program Sequence: When building your course timetable, follow the course sequence outlined in your Program Planner or access your Academic Requirements Report in Bear Tracks. This will allow you to complete your program on time. If you are following your sequence and cannot register in a core course because it is full, contact enggadvising@ualberta.ca. Please ensure you include your student ID in your message.
Check Course Availability in Bear Tracks or My Schedule Builder: Many courses are only offered in one term. Please take this into consideration when building your schedule. The University of Alberta Calendar may indicate that a course is typically offered in multiple terms, however, in practice, they are normally offered in only one of the Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer terms. The best place to see accurate course availability is by searching for classes in My Schedule Builder or in Bear Tracks.
Registering in First-Year Classes
If you have not yet completed one of the required courses from your first year, seats are available on a limited basis for students already in a program. To find out if a section of a first-year class has any available seating, check the Reserve Capacity in the Class Remarks in My Schedule Builder or check the Reserve Capacity in Bear Tracks under the ‘Class Availability’ tab.
Adjusting your Winter Term Registration
If you do not successfully complete a course in the Fall term that prerequisites a course in your Winter term, Bear Tracks will not automatically remove your registration. Students are responsible for reviewing their Winter registration before the start of term to ensure that they have all necessary pre- and corequisites. Please see Engineering Off-Sequence Course Planning for more information. If you fail or withdraw from a course and need assistance in adjusting your schedule, please contact an academic advisor at enggadvising@ualberta.ca or attend a drop-in advising session.
