Grants + Awards
In 2018, as a result of her research into state-of-the-art fuzzy hybrid techniques for construction applications, Dr. Robinson Fayek was awarded the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Fuzzy Hybrid Decision Support Systems for Construction to continue her research into ways to improve the efficiency, performance, and profitability of construction projects. As of 2022, Dr. Robinson Fayek has also held two NSERC Strategic Project grants, one NSERC Collaborative Research Development grant, five NSERC Discovery grants, one SSHRC Standard Research grant, one NSERC Connect grant, and numerous other industrially funded grants. From 2007 to 2011, she held the NSERC Associate Industrial Research Chair in Construction Engineering and Management. Her IRC Chair was later renewed in 2012 and 2017 for two terms as her Senior Industrial Research Chair in Strategic Construction Modeling and Delivery.
As of December 2023, Dr. Robinson Fayek had given more than 81 invited presentations, published more than 105 refereed journal papers, contributed 13 book chapters, presented 95 conference papers, and produced hundreds of technical reports and posters. Five of Dr. Robinson Fayek’s scholarly works have received the Stephen G. Revay Award (in 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, and 2006), which is given for the best paper published in Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering in areas of construction engineering, construction management, or project management.
In 2011, Dr. Robinson Fayek received the Walter Shanly Award, a national award given by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) for outstanding contributions, over a career period exceeding 20 years, to the development and practice of construction engineering in Canada. She was awarded the prestigious Killam Annual Professorship for excellence in research, teaching, publication, graduate student supervision, and service in 2013. Her dedication and exemplary contributions to teaching and learning at the post-secondary level were recognized by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) with the 2016 Excellence in Education Award.
Dr. Robinson Fayek was awarded the 2018 Don Currie Award of Recognition for her longstanding and dedicated service to industry, which has contributed to the success of the Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA). In 2019, Dr. Robinson Fayek was presented with the Peurifoy Construction Research Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for her career contributions advancing fuzzy logic in both theory and practice for construction engineering and management. This award is the highest recognition given by the ASCE for construction research.
She is an Elected Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers and an Elected Member of the National Academy of Construction (USA).
