Anton Malkin

Anton Malkin is the Head of Research at the China Institute, University of Alberta. He holds a PhD in Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs and is a distinguished expert in academic and policy-oriented research on China. He served as Assistant Professor of Global Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, he was a Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) from 2016 to 2020 and a Senior Visiting Scholar at the School of International Studies at Peking University from 2012 to 2013.

Anton’s research focuses on China’s financial system, industrial policy, technological innovation, and its role in global governance. He has made significant contributions to both academic and policy circles, with publications in leading journals such as the Review of International Political Economy, The Journal of Contemporary China, Global Policy, and the Cambridge Review of International Affairs. His insights inform international strategies and global discussions on China’s economic and geopolitical impact.
