ALES Mini-Internship Program
The ALES Mini-Internship Program (AMIP) offers a unique opportunity for students to get first-hand learning experience on careers in agriculture, life, and environmental sciences. Twice a year during the Fall and Winter reading weeks, this program matches students with an industry specific organization for a visit and volunteer work.

Applications for the Winter 2025 program commence at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 and will close at 12 noon on Thursday January 9th, 2025. AMIP will run from February 19th to 21st, 2025. To get the most out of the experience, please apply to the program early. Applications may not be accepted to the program if the capacity is reached.

- Must be a current ALES undergraduate student at the University of Alberta
- There are currently no academic requirements for the mini-internship
- Students applying to Animal Science / Animal Health placements must be currently enrolled in, or have previously completed AnSci 101.
Successful applicants will be invited for a 30 minute in-person group-style intake interview, scheduled around your availability. Interviews are scheduled for January 13th to 15th, 2025. You will be asked to indicate your availability for the interview in your application form and your interview time will be communicated to you after the application window closes.
PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE:
You will be notified via email by January 24th, 2025 if you are accepted into the program.
WAIVERS:
Waivers will be emailed after successful applicants have been notified. The waivers should be completed and submitted by February 12th, 2025.
PROGRAM FEES:
$50, due only if you are successfully matched. Payments should be made by February 12th, 2025 and done through the online store on campusBRIDGE. Information on how to pay will be provided in the program acceptance notification
ORIENTATION:
You must attend one orientation session (even if you have participated in the program previously) to help you prepare for AMIP. These are one hour in duration and are online. Orientation dates will be listed on the registration/application form when this information is released in January and you will select your preferred session when you apply.
COVERALL/STEELED-TOED BOOTS PICK-UP:
You may need to pick up coveralls and/or steeled-toed boots before the start of the program. Pick-up time and location will be provided in the program acceptance notification.
PROGRAM:
The AMIP will run for 3 consecutive days during Winter Reading Week. The dates will be: February 19-21, 2025.
PROGRAM WRAP-UP:
At this in-person event, we will celebrate your experience with the program, encourage you to reflect on your next steps, and you will connect with the program donors and hosts. More information on the event will be provided to participants before the program commences. The Wrap-Up event will be from 5.30 -7 pm on Wednesday 26th February in the ALES Atrium.
