Employer Information about Internship and Work Experience Programs
Co-op and internship programs at the U of A welcome participation and job posting submissions for student recruitment in 2024. All co-op and internship programs at the U of A are regularly evaluating and improving processes to ensure the best outcomes for students and employers.
The ALES Mini-Internship Program matches students with a community-based farm or other Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Science organization for a 3-day workplace visit over Reading Week.
We are currently recruiting farm sites and other Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Science organizations across Alberta to host students.
Hosting students provides you with the opportunity to:
- Provide new professionals with the support you had (or wished you had) when you first started working.
- Contribute to the education and development of new professionals in your field.
- Create awareness about career opportunities in your field.

The Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) facilitates the creation of paid, flexible work experience opportunities for U of A graduate students. Interdisciplinary temporary jobs are available throughout the year, allowing graduate students to strengthen their professional and transferable skills.
The GSIP includes the Sustainability Scholars Program and the Public Service Graduate Internship Program.
GSIP staff post employer-funded opportunities on the U of A online job board and provide support to employers interested in applying for the Mitacs Business Strategy Internship funding to offset some of the student intern wages. GSIP staff also provide support to grad students applying to internships, as well as to successful GSIP interns, to ensure they have a valuable experience.
Graduate student internships through the GSIP are employer-driven and flexible. Applications are ongoing.
Contact Call 780-492-1869 or email GSIP@ualberta.ca with questions or to post an internship opportunity.
Each summer the International Student Summer Employment Program (ISSEP) accepts applications from employers looking to hire international students and have their positions supplemented under the ISSEP. Approved positions are reimbursed a wage subsidy of $7.00/hour to a maximum of $4000/position.
Application process and criteria
Positions must be located within the greater Edmonton, Alberta area. All applications are reviewed and ranked based on factors including quality of work experience, hourly salary, number of weeks and hours per week offered. Employers will be notified of the status of their application(s) in March. Successful applicants will be provided with further recruiting and administrative information.
