    • Views from school principals, school boards, stakeholders, teachers and parents:
      Young people and their use of social media, and the need for digital literacy and ethical citizenship education.
    • Young people's viewpoints:
      How do they experience their online identities? How do they see themselves
      of an ethical citizen online, and how can we empower them to act as ethical citizens
      ethical citizen in the face of the social media issues they face?

BIOGRAPHIES

Martine Pellerin - Principal Investigator

Martine Pellerin is a full professor at the University of Alberta, Faculté Saint-Jean. She was Vice-Dean of Research and Innovation for 6 years. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the integration of technology in the and more recently on artificial intelligence (AI) in education, assessment in the digital age, digital literacy and ethical citizenship education. Her research focuses on the integration of digital technology in the classroom, trainee supervision with the AICOLT system, online collaborative action research (OCAR) as professional professional development, digital literacy and ethical citizenship, and more recently artificial intelligence and plagiarism.


Megan Cotnam-Kappel - Co-Principal Investigator

Megan Cotnam-Kappel is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. A specialist in educational technologies, her research interests include digital literacy and citizenship, the Maker movement and minority education. She holds doctorates from the University of Ottawa and the Université de Corse Pascal Paoli. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. A committed Franco-Ontarian, she leads a research program aimed at developing digital literacy skills among teachers and students, with a view to reducing the digital divide across Canada and in minority communities in particular.
