Campus Saint-Jean takes a further step in its Decolonization and Indigenization process
28 April 2023
The University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean is furthering its commitment to Decolonization, Indigenization and inclusive Transformation, as part of Braiding Past Present and Future: University of Alberta's Indigenous Strategic Plan, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, and the University of Alberta's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity Strategic Plan.
Over the next few months, the Campus will be partially renovated, gradually transforming its infrastructure to incorporate an inclusive and respectful dimension while taking an educational approach to the remaining historical elements. These changes will allow the Campus to continue to develop as a place for listening, dialogue and exchange.
Throughout this process, the Dean of Faculté Saint-Jean and Campus Executive Officer, Prof. Jason Carey, will collaborate and consult with First Nations and Métis community leaders, researchers, professors and students from the University of Alberta and the Association des Universitaires de la Faculté Saint-Jean (AUFSJ).
In recognition of these new initiatives and our continued walk down the pathway of reconciliation and decolonization, Campus Saint-Jean will hold a pipe ceremony with Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, an association committed to building on the strengths of Indigenous children, youth and families to enable them to grow spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally so that they can walk proudly in Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
We invite you to participate in the pipe ceremony on June 13. If you are interested in attending, please complete this Google Form before Tuesday, June 6, 6 pm.
