Co-operative Program MSc and PhD Research Fellowships in Agricultural Marketing and Business
Graduate research fellowships are being offered as part of the Co-operative research program in Agricultural Marketing and Business with colleagues in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, University of Alberta, Canada. Research fellowships ($15,000/annum) are available for full-time study in one of the following programs:
- MAg Agricultural and Resource Economics
- MSc Agricultural and Resource Economics
- MBA/MAg.Agricultural Business Management
- PhD Agricultural and Resource Economics
The scholarship is made available to study any area of agricultural marketing and/or agri-business management. Potential research subjects might include:
- marketing strategies for agri-food products (including genetically modified products), consumer choice in food products
- market structure, concentration, mergers, and acquisitions
- management of intellectual property in life sciences economy, patent law and biotechnology investment decisions
- entrepreneurship and agri-food Value-chain strategies
- knowledge based economic growth (including network externalities in agri-food marketing systems)
- managing organizational change
- agribusiness finance

Background Information on the Co-operative Program
Funds for this endowment were collected in the late 1980s and early 1990s with substantial contributions from the co-operative sector, agricultural marketing organizations, and the University of Alberta through the Government of Alberta matching program. The founding organizations (listed in alphabetical order) include:

Program activities began in 1994 and a graduate student scholarship was added in 1999. Industry has remained incredibly supportive of the program over the years. The current chair of the Co-operative Program Advisory Group is Don Fluney from Federated Co-operatives Ltd. and Dr. Ellen Goddard is the current Co-operatives Chair. Some of the key people involved in establishing and operating the Co-operative Program were Bill Dobson, Don Fluney, Howard Haney, Murray Hawkins, Edgar Newsham (UFA), T. Alf Petersen, William Phillips, Ed Schultz, Greg Smith, and Orville Sorken.
