The Forestry Field School

Each year, the Department of Renewable Resources offers two experiential field opportunities for our students in the summer term.
During Introductory Forestry Field School, first-year forestry and forest business management students meet the week prior to the fall semester to spend six days visiting forested areas, learning basic field skills and meeting with forest practitioners and professionals, many of whom are former U of A forestry graduates themselves.
Senior forestry and environmental and conservation sciences students take part in Field Skills in Environmental, Conservation and Forest Sciences, a course consisting of 10 one-day field trips in the Edmonton area in order to apply the academic knowledge they’ve gained in the first two years of their program in practical and experiential environments. Formerly known as Spring Field School and held in May, this course is now offered in late August. Students complete work specific to their chosen program and career goals as well as projects relevant to the study of renewable resources more generally.
