Human Ecology Graduate Programs

Human Ecology Master of Arts, Master of Science degrees and PhD programs in Aging, Family, Children, Textiles, Clothing, and Material Culture.

The purpose of research undertaken by students and academic staff members in the Department of Human Ecology is to advance scholarship that enhances every day life. Graduate students are integral members of relevant academic and professional communities, conducting research in collaboration with academic staff members who are themselves outstanding scholars. Human Ecology offers the following course-based and thesis-based masters programs and doctoral programs. The Human Ecology department supports rigorous multidisciplinary research programs with a particular focus on four main areas: aging; children, youth and families, material culture studies and, textile and apparel science.

Textile and Apparel Science

Research fields include the study of fiber science with a focus on areas such as material response under various thermal hazards, combustion of textile materials, odour transfer, standards development and functional apparel design.
