Overview

What the Program has to offer:

  • This immersive, three-week summer program will give students a unique opportunity to learn about Icelandic literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present.
  • This course comprises lectures and workshops on Icelandic literature, language history, folklore, and nature; museum study visits; and excursions to the glaciated Snæfell peninsula and Iceland’s dramatic south coast.
  • Students will read and discuss literary works from sagas and Eddic poetry to contemporary novels and poetry.
  • This program is designed for students interested in Icelandic literature, Icelandic Canadian literature, culture, and history. No prior knowledge is required.

When Can I Go?

The program will be offered in 2026.

Terms Offered: Summer

Credits: 6 (MLCS 399 and SCAND 399). Students will be registered in both courses.

Anticipated Costs:

Tuition and non-instructional fees: $1651.18

Program fee: $550 (subject to change)

Accommodation: $660 (subject to change)

Return airfare: ~2000
