Project Description
The research project “Security and Defence Policy of Ukraine (2004–2022)” undertakes an interdisciplinary examination, delving into the strategic underpinnings and evolutionary trajectory of Ukraine’s security and defence policies within the intricate geopolitical milieu of Eastern Europe. Encompassing the transformative period of 2004–2022, marked by significant milestones such as the Orange Revolution and concluding with the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the study employs a robust theoretical framework to comprehensively analyze legal acts, strategic documents, and conceptual foundations germane to Ukraine's foreign, security, and defense policies. Primary research objectives include exploration of external military and political threats encountered by Ukraine, necessitating a nuanced analysis of relations with key non-state actors, strategic regional partners, and global actors. Furthermore, the research aims to scrutinize regional initiatives, offering critical insights into their direct impact on the state's foreign policy trajectory. This multifaceted analysis seeks to identify pivotal factors shaping the formulation and implementation of Ukraine's security and defence policies. The incorporation of historical context and examination of Ukraine's strategic culture further augment the depth of analysis, contributing to a nuanced understanding of how historical events and cultural nuances influence contemporary security strategy. This comprehensive approach aims to facilitate the anticipation and effective response to future challenges in the realms of national security and the broader pan-European security architecture.
