Austrian Canadian Council Dissertation Prizes in the field of Austrian Studies
Value:
For best M.A. thesis $500
For best Ph.D. thesis $1,000
The Austrian Canadian Council will award up to $ 1500 per year to the best M.A. or Ph.D. theses completed at Canadian Universities in fulfillment of the relevant graduate degrees. The competition is open to all dissertations in the field of Austrian Studies (including history, music, philosophy, literature or comparative literature with an Austrian thematic dimension). Both a Ph.D. thesis prize and an M.A. thesis prize may be awarded in each year, depending on the quality and number of applications. The competition is open to all theses completed and accepted by the appropriate graduate faculty in the twelve months prior to the nomination deadline of the end of October. The prize is administered by the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of Alberta. The Institute will establish an adjudicating committee of three prominent Canadian professors of German literature to assess the nominations. Winners will be announced on or around 15 December each year. Nominations may be made by departments, thesis advisors, or authors themselves, and should be accompanied by a copy of the dissertation and a letter of support by the primary faculty advisor of the thesis. All supporting documents must be received by the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies within one week of the nomination deadline.
